Case File: The Cause Was Known, but the Money Was Still Missing

A manager can know why a difference exists while the settlement, reversal or receivable is still outstanding. Explanation is not resolution.

Field-derived caseExplained ≠ resolvedOpen exception
Evidence basisField reconciliation showed that a documented cause can make a variance understandable without making the money available again. This distinction is essential for delayed settlements, reversals and receivables.

Why explanation should not close the item

If an expected settlement has not arrived, the business still has an open asset or exception even when everyone agrees on the cause. Closing it early removes the follow-up obligation.

Control lesson

Track status, expected resolution date, unresolved amount, evidence and final resolution reference. A clean daily close may explain an open item, but the exception should remain visible until it is actually settled or otherwise resolved.

This case publishes the control principle without customer names, transaction references or proprietary app implementation.
