Case File: A POS Withdrawal Failed, but the Debit Still Needed Resolution

A failed or disputed POS withdrawal can create a temporary difference when the account is debited but cash is not dispensed or the reversal is still pending.

Field-derived caseFailed-but-debitedSettlement / reversal
Evidence basisA field-control review encountered a failed withdrawal scenario where the operational question was not simply “did it fail?” but whether value was actually debited, whether cash left, and whether a reversal later restored the account.

Why “failed” is not a final accounting status

A failed screen message does not by itself tell the owner what happened financially. The control record must distinguish the attempted transaction, any provider debit, cash actually handed out, and the later reversal or settlement status.

Control lesson

Keep the item open as an exception until provider evidence shows the final financial result. Link the original reference, evidence and resolution reference. Do not count an expected reversal as money already returned.

This case publishes the control principle without customer names, transaction references or proprietary app implementation.
